The final score made it look like a laugher, but it took a 17-0 late run from No. 24 San Diego State to propel the Aztecs to a 65-36 win over McNeese State on Saturday.
San Diego State vs. McNeese State final score: Aztecs stifle Cowboys as both teams struggle
The game wasn’t exactly a classic, and San Diego State shot just 37 percent, but the Aztecs will take the win.

The Cowboys shot just 23 percent for the game, including 11 percent from three. They also scored just 18 points in each half.
But the game was a struggle offensively for both teams, with neither breaking the 30-point mark until a Winston Shepard layup with 13:02 left put the Aztecs up 31-25. Shepard led San Diego State with 14 points, which helped offset a brutal 1-for-13 shooting day from leading scorer Xavier Thames. Josh Davis had 12 points and 17 rebounds.
The Cowboys, who used 14 players, were led by Ledrick Eakles (13 points), but he shot just 5-of-17 from the field.
San Diego State ended the game on a 42-11 run.
Next up, the Aztecs face St. Katherine College before two tough road games at Colorado State and Kansas.
