College basketball schedule: No. 1 Arizona hosts Northern Arizona

The No. 1 Arizona Wildcats face an intrastate opponent and a familiar face in NAU coach Jack Murphy.

The No. 1 Arizona Wildcats are the only top-25 squad in action on Monday and face a Northern Arizona team led by head coach Jack Murphy, who spent several years moving up the ranks at Arizona before becoming a coach.

Tennessee will aim to end its two-game losing skid against Morehead State, the Cincinnati Bearcats will hope to win their third in a row in a game against Chicago State, and the Virginia Cavaliers face the hot-shooting Norfolk State Spartans.

Here’s what to watch for in the big games for Monday.

Northern Arizona vs. No. 1 Arizona (10 p.m. ET, Pac-12 Networks)

The 12-0 Wildcats come off a win against Southern and showed they can be quite competent without 7' center Kaleb Tarczewski, who sprained his ankle against Michigan and is likely out Monday against the NAU Lumberjacks. Freshman Rondae Hollis-Jefferson has joined a smaller starting frontcourt of forwards Brandon Ashley and Aaron Gordon, and though Arizona lacks the interior presence, the change only adds to the athleticism and versatility for Sean Miller's crew. NAU is led by 6'8 forward Max Jacobsen, who averages 14.8 points per game.

Morehead State vs. Tennessee (7 p.m. ET, ESPNU)

After losses to then-No. 12 Wichita State and North Carolina State, the Tennessee Volunteers will ride Jordan McRae's 19.7 points per game hoping to rebound against the Morehead State Eagles. The Eagles have their own firepower in junior guard Angelo Warner, who is scoring 17.4 points, grabbing 5.1 rebounds and dolling out 3.6 assists per game. Neither team is especially efficient, and if that trend continues, it'll be up to Tennessee forward Jarnell Stokes and Jeronne Maymon to crash the offensive glass and earn second-change points -- the duo combined for 15 offensive rebounds in their last game.

Chicago State vs. Cincinnati (7 p.m. ET, ESPN3)

Guard Sean Kilpatrick leads the 9-2 Bearcats against Chicago State, which has won all five games at home but lost all six of its games on the road. Kilpatrick is averaging 18.7 points per game while shooting an effective 47 percent from the field and 41 percent from three-point range. Senior swingman Quinton Pippen leads the Cougars at 14.2 points per game but is shooting just 37 percent from the field. Chicago State will need to search for quality shots to have a chance.

Norfolk State vs. Virginia (7 p.m. ET, ESPN3)

The Virginia Cavaliers' apprehensive style doesn't lead to many points, and that's what makes this matchup of eight-win squads so intriguing. With the top-six scorers averaging from between six and 12 points per game, Tony Bennett's team will lean on its defense as usual. Norfolk State has its four top scorers averaging between 11 and 19 points, and the slick-shooting duo of Malcolm Hawkins and Pendarvis Williams will be the key players for Virginia to stop. The Spartans rank in the top-30 by averaging 82.8 points per game and are 13th in the NCAA by shooting 50.3 percent.
