Kansas vs. Toledo final score: No. 16 Jayhawks’ hot hands give Toledo first loss of season

Not much you can do when Kansas shoots 56 percent at home.

John Rieger-USA TODAY Sports

The No. 16 Kansas Jayhawks weren't at their best Monday, but a pair of double-doubles and 20 points from Andrew Wiggins helped put them over the top in a 93-83 win over the Toledo Rockets.

Perry Ellis finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds, and freshman center Joel Embiid had 16 points and 10 boards. But despite the excellent individual performances, Kansas never quite shook the Rockets. Toledo led as late as 22-20 about 10 minutes in to the first half, and played consistently within one possession late into the first half.

But once Kansas scored six unanswered to give itself a 37-30 lead with 3:40 until halftime, Toledo could not get back within a single score.

Still, the previously undefeated Rockets, now 12-1, shot 47.1 percent on the floor at the Phog Allen Fieldhouse and only surrendered eight turnovers. But the Jayhawks’ 38-24 rebounding advantage and 56-percent shooting was too much to overcome.

On Sunday the Jayhawks host the No. 21 San Diego State Aztecs to close out their non-conference schedule.
