Villanova vs. Saint Joseph’s final score: Bell leads Wildcats to second straight Big 5 win

James Bell had a career-high 25 points to go with 14 rebounds in just 28 minutes as Villanova beat Saint Joseph’s for local bragging rights.

No. 14 Villanova led by just four at the half, but opened the second on a 17-3 run to blow out Saint Joseph’s, 98-68, on Saturday in Philadelphia.

It was Villanova’s first road game of the season, though it was just a few miles from campus, and the Wildcats had no trouble beating a Big 5 opponent for the second straight game. They also topped Penn, 77-54, Wednesday night.

JayVaughn Pinkston led all scorers with 27 points, while James Bell poured in a career-best 25 points along with 14 rebounds to overwhelm the Hawks. Pinkston and Bell combined to shoot 17-for-30.

Langston Galloway led Saint Joseph's with 18 points, but he did so on just 6-of-16 shooting. DeAndre Bembry added 17 more.

With the win, Villanova remained undefeated, improving to 9-0 as one of the nation’s surprising teams in 2013-14. The Wildcats started the season unranked, but thrust themselves into the national spotlight with a Battle 4 Atlantis championship that included wins over Kansas and Iowa. They will face two more mid-majors in the next couple weeks before a big trip to the Carrier Dome to face Syracuse on Dec. 28.
