Nerlens Noel injury: X-rays reveal no fracture, Kentucky awaits MRI results

X-rays revealed that Kentucky center Nerlens Noel did not fracture any bones in his left leg Tuesday night when he collided with the basket support at Florida.

USA TODAY Sports

The first bit of news on Kentucky center Nerlens Noel's injury is positive, as X-rays revealed no broken bones in his left leg, according to ESPN's Andy Katz. MRI results, which would likely reveal any ligament damage, have not come back as Noel continues to be examined back home in Lexington.

Noel suffered the injury Tuesday night towards the end of Kentucky's 17-point loss to Florida. He raced back in transition to challenge a Mike Rosario breakaway layup, and his left leg violently collided with the basket support as he came down. He had to be carried off the floor by his teammates, and reportedly went to a local Gainesville hospital in a wheelchair.

Noel is considered the likely No. 1 overall pick in the 2013 Draft, and would have been a high lottery pick last year if not for the NBA’s age requirement. The injury immediately prompted folks to question that age minimum, as Noel almost certainly enrolled at UK with one-and-done plans.

The Wildcats had just climbed back into the top-25 in the AP Poll and Noel had become a force on the defensive end in conference play. But Noel and Kentucky will now await the MRI results, which will likely come in later on Wednesday.
