Despite giving the No. 4 Michigan Wolverines a fight, the Penn St. Nittany Lions didn't have enough firepower to combat Trey Burke and crew, who took a 79-71 victory in Ann Arbor on Sunday.
No. 4 Michigan vs. Penn State final score: Trey Burke scores 29 to hold off Nittany Lions, 79-71
The Penn State Nittany Lions desperately fought for their first Big Ten victory, but didn’t have enough to pull off an upset against the No. 4 Michigan Wolverines.

Burke scored 29 points to go with five assists and two steals, and he got help from freshmen Nik Stauskas and Glenn Robinson III, who scored 18 and 21 points, respectively.
The Nittany Lions (8-19), who are now 0-13 in Big Ten play, showed desperation for their first Big Ten victory and clawed their way to a 18-11 lead halfway through the first half. But the Wolverines responded, chipping away at the deficit to find themselves tied at 32 by halftime.
Michigan (22-4) scored the first six points of the second half, but again, Penn State took the punch well by keeping the Wolverines’ lead within single-digits. In the second half, the Penn State defense that had held Michigan to 36 percent shooting in the first half caved, allowing 58 percent in the second as Michigan made enough plays down the stretch to separate for the win.
The Wolverines ended up shooting 47 percent for the game.
Jermaine Marshall and Sasa Borovnjak led PSU with 17 points. D.J. Newbill and Ross Travis scored 11 apiece for the Nittany Lions.
