The Louisville Cardinals picked up a key road win Sunday as they continue to chase the Big East regular season title, defeating the South Florida Bulls, 59-41.

Guard Russ Smith scored 15 points and Gorgui Dieng added 10 rebounds and five blocks as the Louisville Cardinals beat the South Florida Bulls, 59-41, to remain in the hunt for first place in the Big East.


Both teams started out stiff, amassing only 22 points combined in the first seven minutes of the game. That’s when the Cardinals began to pull away, going on a 19-3 run over the next 10 minutes of play. The Bulls answered with a 9-2 run to pull within eight going into halftime.
The Cardinals again pulled away midway through the second half behind the play of guard Russ Smith, who led Louisville in scoring with 15 points. Forward Chane Behanan put up 12 points while center Gorgui Dieng added 10 rebounds and five blocks.
The win moved the Cardinals to 21-5 on the season and 9-4 in conference. They’re now a half game behind Syracuse, Georgetown and Marquette for first place in the Big East. They host Seton Hall next Saturday. The Bulls moved to 10-15 on the season and 1-12 in conference.
