NCAA executive committee chair Lou Anna K. Simon released a statement on Saturday endorsing the work of president Mark Emmert. The organization’s backing of its president comes amid a swirling of controversy involving the NCAA’s decision-making process in the Penn State and Miami investigations.

Despite the NCAA’s controversial handling of the Penn State and Miami cases as of late, Mark Emmert’s job does not appear to be in any sort of jeopardy.

Simon, who also serves as the president of Michigan State University, touched on the policy reform on which the executive committee and board of directors are working, in addition to showing the governing bodies’ support of Emmert:
“Mark Emmert was hired to lead a major transformation of the NCAA. Much has been accomplished without fanfare, such as academic reforms, enhanced fiscal accountability and organizational transparency. The Executive Committee and President Emmert recognize there is much yet to do and that the road to transformational change is often bumpy and occasionally controversial. Therefore, on Friday the Executive Committee unanimously affirmed its confidence in Mark’s leadership as president and its support for his ongoing efforts to implement these essential and historic reforms.”
Recently, presidents of Mountain West Conference schools circulated a memo that questioned the direction of the NCAA’s leadership, according to CBS Sports’ Dennis Dodd. On top of that, the NCAA has been taken to task by SI’s Andy Staples and CBS Sports’ John Feinstein over various issues as of late.
