Jim Bollman to be Michigan State offensive coordinator, according to report

The Spartans will be looking to a former Ohio State staffer to lead their offense.

Gregory Shamus

Former Ohio State offensive coordinator Jim Bollman will be taking the same position with Michigan State, according to Football Scoop. Bollman worked as offensive line coach and run game coordinator at Boston College in 2012 after spending 11 seasons with the Buckeyes and was hired by Purdue as O-line coach for 2013.

MSU is replacing Dan Roushar, who left for the New Orleans Saints.

Bollman was fired from Ohio State after the 2011 season after the team finished a surprising 6-7. The offense took a tumble from one of the best in the country in 2010, despite having some of the best talent around. The Buckeyes finished 65th during Bollman’s final year in Football Outsiders’ Offensive F/+ standings, a metric that combines efficiency on a per play and per drive level, while adjusting for opponent strength. The previous year, Ohio State’s offense finished 13th on that same list.

Michigan State will be looking to the person that guided that 65th-ranked offense in Columbus to head its 61st-ranked 2012 squad. Bollman certainly won’t have the athletic advantage that he did at Ohio State, so it may be difficult for him to keep up in East Lansing.
