Dominic Artis injury: Oregon star set to return Thursday

Oregon Ducks point guard Dominic Artis will return from a foot injury on Thursday against the Oregon State Beavers.

Josh Holmberg-US PRESSWIRE

Freshman point guard Dominic Artis will return for the Oregon Ducks on Thursday against the Oregon State Beavers, though in limited minutes, according to The Sporting News. Out since Jan. 23 with an undisclosed foot problem, coach Dana Altman said that he will play his point guard off the bench and in limited minutes, according to The Oregonian.

“I’m not sure what that number’s going to be, but I’ll sit down with the trainers and the doctors before the game ... and see where it is,” Altman said. “And it may change during the game if he’s not feeling right.”

Jonathon Lloyd will remain as Oregon’s starting point guard.

Since Artis injured his foot, the Ducks have struggled and gone 5-4 in Pac-12 play. With their lead guard, Oregon had compiled a perfect 6-0 record in Pac-12 play, and were 17-2 overall. Oregon has gone 5-4 since the injury but still sits atop the conference with an 11-4 league record. The No. 24 Ducks, at 22-6 overall, are tied with the No. 11 Arizona Wildcats in league play, but hold the tiebreaker.

Artis was averaging 10.2 points and 3.8 assists for Altman’s team before the left foot injury.

Oregon has maintained that they will be careful to ease back their freshman guard in hopes that he’ll be back at 100 percent by the Pac-12 Tournament, which begins on March 13.
