Russ Smith scored 18 points as No. 12 Louisville defeated No. 25 Marquette, 70-51, on Sunday. It was the second straight win for the Cardinals, who improved to 18-4 overall and 6-3 in the Big East.

Louisville missed its first seven shots, but came back to finish at 52 percent shooting from the field. The Cardinals led 38-24 at halftime, and pulled away even further in the second half. The loss drops Marquette into a tie for first in the Big East with Syracuse.
Smith hit 6-of-15 shots for his 18 points and also finished with five rebounds. Peyton Siva added 14 points and seven assists. The Cardinals beat up the Eagles on the boards, finishing with a 34-22 advantage.
Vander Blue led Marquette with 17 points, while Trent Lockett added 16. The Eagles hit just 36 percent of their shots and went 3-of-13 from beyond the arc.
