No. 5 Kansas vs. TCU final score: Kansas drops second straight in 62-53 stinker to TCU

What happened Wednesday, and how, and why? Will we as a sports-watching society ever solve the existential quandary Kansas forced upon us Wednesday?

USA TODAY Sports

The No. 5 Kansas Jayhawks played their worst half of basketball since 1989 in Wednesday's first half against the Texas Christian Horned Frogs, and it didn't get much better in the second half. The Horned Frogs held on for a 62-53 upset in their first win as a member of the Big 12 after an 0-8 start.

Kansas has now lost two straight games, falling into a tie for first in the Big 12 at 7-2 with the Kansas State Wildcats.

The Jayhawks shot 3-of-22 from the floor in the first half at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum, and were down down 22-13 going into a halftime that must have felt much longer than 15 minutes. So while the Jayhawks had endured the most futile half in any of their current players’ lifetimes, they were only down by nine points.

Kansas made a game of it yet, getting as close as 44-40 with about seven minutes left in the game. But TCU pulled away, at least as much as it could given its own subpar-in-a-vacuum shooting night (the Horned Frogs were 39.1 percent from the floor).

The Jayhawks finished shooting 29.5 percent from the floor and 3-of-22 from three-point range.

Garlon Green had 20 points for the Horned Frogs. He was 7-of-13 from the floor.
