No. 15 New Mexico vs. UNLV final score: Lobos can’t overcome big first half from UNLV in 64-55 loss

The UNLV Rebels raced out to an early lead and held off New Mexico in a 64-55 home win Saturday night that snapped their brief two-game skid.

Anthony Bennett and Bryce Dejean-Jones combined for 33 points as the UNLV Rebels got off the schneid in a big way Saturday night. After losing two straight and three of their last five, UNLV answered with a convincing 64-55 win at home over No. 15 New Mexico.

Neither team shot the ball particularly well Saturday night, but the Lobos had it particularly rough, especially from three, where they were just 4-22. New Mexico also managed just seven points off its bench. Center Alex Kirk led the Lobos with 17 points and a game-high 16 rebounds. Overall, New Mexico narrowly won the battle of the boards, 41-40.

Meanwhile UNLV got nearly all of its scoring from Bennett (17 points), Dejean-Jones (16 points), Katin Reinhardt (14 points) and Anthony Marshall (11 points). Only two other Rebels scored, neither tallying more than two points.

UNLV led the entire 40 minutes and never let the Lobos close to within less than seven the entire second half. New Mexico did come out of halftime quickly with five quick points to pull to within nine, but Bennett then answered with two quick scores and Reinhardt hit a three to silence the threat.

The Lobos could not close to within single digits until the final minutes.
