Southland Conference Tournament 2013 bracket: Stephen F. Austin earns top seed

The bracket for the 2013 Southland Conference men’s basketball tournament is set, with Stephen F. Austin and Northwestern State earning byes for the first two rounds of the tournament after earning the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds, respectively.

The 2013 Southland Conference men’s basketball tournament bracket is all set. Stephen F. Austin locked up the No. 1 seed with 16-2 conference record (26-3 overall) to finish one game ahead of Northwestern State. Both of those teams will advance straight to the semifinals this Friday, while six more teams duke it out over the preceding two days.

Defending conference champion Lamar is not participating in the tournament this year, after posting an abysmal 1-17 conference record (3-28 overall). Last year’s runner-up McNeese State hopes to make another big run after sneaking into the 2013 tournament as the No. 8 seed.

Wednesday, March 13

Game 1: No. 8 McNeese State vs. No. 5 Nicholls, 6 p.m.

Game 2: No. 7 Central Arkansas vs. No. 6 Sam Houston State, 8:30 p.m.

Thursday, March 14

Game 3: No. 4 Southeastern Louisiana vs. Game 1 winner, 6 p.m.

Game 4: No. 3 Oral Roberts vs. Game 2 winner, 8:30 p.m.

Friday, March 15

Game 5: No. 1 Stephen F. Austin vs. Game 3 winner, 6 p.m., ESPN3

Game 6: No. 2 Northwestern State vs. Game 4 winner, 8:30 p.m., ESPN3

Saturday, March 16

Championship: Game 5 winner vs. Game 6 winner, 8:30 p.m., ESPN2
