Mountain West basketball standings 2013: New Mexico wins regular season title

The Lobos finished the regular season at the top of the MWC standings, but now focus shifts to the conference tournament, which begins Tuesday.

New Mexico finished Mountain West play on a losing note Saturday, but that did not prevent the Lobos from capturing the league’s regular season title. The Lobos finished the season with a 13-3 MWC record, which was two games better than the second-place finisher, Colorado State.

UNLV, Boise State and San Diego State round out the top five. Four of those top-five finishers can feel confident about making the NCAA tournament, but Boise State’s position is a perilous one -- the Broncos are one of the last four teams in the field of 68 according SB Nation bracketologist Chris Dobbertean. The Broncos will have an opportunity to bolster their case with some wins in the MWC tournament.
