2013 Southern Conference Tournament schedule and bracket: Davidson, Charleston meet for championship

Two of the top three seeds from the Southern Conference will square off for the league title on Monday night. The winner will head to the NCAA Tournament.

USA TODAY Sports

The champion of the 2013 Southern Conference Tournament will be determined on Monday. The winner will be on their way to the NCAA Tournament as they look to become this year’s Cinderella team.

On Sunday, four teams battled in the semifinals. Top-seeded Davidson squared off with No. 4 seed Appalachian State, while No. 2 Elon faced No. 3 College of Charleston.

Appalachian State appeared to be on their way to pulling the upset, leading by 13 early in the second half. Davidson came storming back though, tying the score at 47-47 with eight minutes to play. The Wildcats held tough down the stretch and came up with a couple key defensive stops to avoid the upset. Appalachian State's Nathan Healy had a chance to tie the game in the closing seconds, but his three-point attempted clanked out as the buzzer sounded.

In the nightcap, College of Charleston picked up the 68-60 win over Elon to advance to the title game. The two teams started off a bit sloppy in the early going, but the scoring really picked up in the second half. The Cougars really dug in on the defensive end in the closing minutes though, holding Elon to 39 percent shooting from the field. The Phoenix went just 3-for-11 from behind the arc in their losing effort.

Monday’s title game is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. It will be televised by ESPN2 and streamed online by ESPN3.
