Big 12 Tournament 2013 predictions: Kansas a popular pick among pundits

Spoiler alert: Nobody we found chose TCU.

USA TODAY Sports

The top-seeded Kansas Jayhawks are, not surprisingly, expected to win this week's Big 12 tournament.

Kansas, which finished the season 26-5 and 14-4 in league play, won a tiebreaker with the 14-4 Kansas State Wildcats to take the tournament’s No. 1 seed. The Jayhawks won both regular-season meetings between the two.

The Jayhawks have had their share of bad losses this season, including a 23-point loss in their regular-season finale against the Baylor Bears, but SI.com's Brian Hamilton picked Kansas to win the Big 12 tournament on its positives rather than negatives.

As long as Kansas avoids the occasional out-of-body, out-of-commission effort that pops up every now and again, it should win.

Hamilton chose the Oklahoma State Cowboys as the team with the potential to knock off the Jayhawks. The two split their regular-season meetings.

Yahoo! Sports’ Jeff Eisenberg also chose Kansas, but his colleague Pat Forde chose the Iowa State Cyclones to make a run and win the league tournament.

This could be a carnage tourney, and the Cyclones can light up from 3-point range. If they’re hot for the entire weekend they’re as good as anyone else in Kansas City.

The tournament begins Wednesday. The championship game is Saturday at 6 p.m. ET on ESPN.

In CBSsports.com’s bracketology, Jerry Palm chose Kansas as the automatic qualifier from the Big 12 but did not offer an explanation.
