SWAC Tournament 2013 schedule and bracket: Alabama A&M vs. Grambling State winner gets Southern

SWAC favorites Southern will have a pretty easy first matchup when they take on the winner of tonight’s matchup between Alabama A&M and Grambling State.

Jim Cowsert-US PRESSWIRE

If they were to win their conference tournament, the Southern Jaguars are probably destined to be one of those 15 or 16 seeds at March Madness that generally gets knocked off within a half of basketball. However, they’re definitely hitting the tournament season in stride. After starting 1-5, Southern has won 20 of their last 24.

But they still have to win the games to get in. With Texas Southern out due to a two year postseason ban due to various violations, the road gets easier for Southern, who will enjoy essentially two first round byes and need to win only twice to punch their ticket to the Dance.

The tournament takes place at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland, Texas. Here’s a look at the current SWAC bracket, and a quick look at tonight’s lone game.
Wednesday, March 13th
No. 6 Alabama A&M (10-19, 6-12 SWAC) vs. No. 7 Grambling State (0-27, 0-18 SWAC), 8 p.m.: Alabama A&M is most definitely one of the worst teams in the country. Grambling State is undoubtedly the worst. Grambling State lost its two matchups with A&M by 25 and 27 points, so you’d be hard-pressed to see an upset in the making happening tonight. Southern awaits the winner of these two hapless squads on Friday night.
