SWAC Tournament 2013 results and bracket: Alabama A&M moves on to semis

Only one game was played in the SWAC tournament on Wednesday, as Alabama A&M defeated Grambling State to move on to the semifinals.

The 2013 Southwest Athletic Conference Tournament officially kicked off on Wednesday. With only seven teams qualified to participate in the postseason, there was just one first-round game played Wednesday. Let’s take a look.

No. 6 Alabama A&M Bulldogs 59, Grambling State Tigers 51

Grambling State is one of the biggest Eeyore stories in the nation, finishing the regular season with a 0-27 record. They actually had a chance to break that ignominious streak Wednesday night, going into halftime with a 28-25 lead over the Bulldogs. Unfortunately, Alabama A&M would dominate the second half and send the Tigers home with a fat goose-egg on the season. At least their marching band is still cool.

Brandon Ellis led the Bulldogs with 19 points and Demarquelle Tabb put up a double-double (15 points, 15 rebounds) to pace the team. They will take on Southern in the semifinals on Friday.

Here’s Thursday’s schedule for the rest of the first round:

--No. 2 Jackson State Tigers vs. No. 5 Alabama State Hornets, 12:30 p.m. ET

--No. 3 Alcorn State Braves vs. No. 4 Prairie View A&M Panthers, 8 p.m. ET
