The Maryland Terrapins take on the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in the first round of the ACC Tournament on Thursday, hoping to stay alive in the NCAA bid chase.
No. 7 Maryland vs. No. 10 Wake Forest preview: Terrapins hoping to stay on bubble
Maryland is facing a must-win game, as the Terrapins try to stay alive for an NCAA Tournament bid.
Maryland (20-11, 8-10 ACC) is desperate for a run in the ACC tourney, with the Terrapins’ bubble dangerously close to popping. SB Nation’s Bracketology expert, Chris Dobbertean, barely has the Terps in the NCAA picture, putting them in the “also considered” category.
That said, the Terrapins certainly have the talent to make a run this week. They have big wins over Duke and N.C. State on their resume and swept Wake Forest in the regular season. They're one of the best rebounding teams in the nation thanks to Alex Len, who averages 8.1 boards per game and was named to the ACC All-Defensive Team.
Wake Forest finished 6-12 in the conference and doesn't have any realistic tourney shot, but Championship Week is always unpredictable, and the Demon Deacons will savor the opportunity to burst a team's bubble. They already scored upset wins over Miami and N.C. State. Led by C.J. Harris (15.3 PPG), Travis McKie (13.7 PPG, 7.1 RPG) and All-Freshman Team member Devin Thomas (8.9 PPG, 7.7 RPG), the Deacons shouldn't be taken lightly.
Game Time, TV: 7 p.m. ET, ESPNU
