Big Sky Tournament 2013 results and bracket: Weber State, 2 others advance

The second-seeded Weber State Wildcats are the biggest threat to knock Montana off of its Big Sky pedestal, and they began their quest to do so by routing Northern Arizona in the opening round of the league’s tournament.

The Weber State Wildcats, Northern Colorado Bears and the University of North Dakota each advanced to the semifinal round of the 2013 Big Sky Tournament after picking up wins on Thursday at Dahlberg Arena in Missoula, Mont.

Weber State defeated the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks, 84-58, in the opening game of the tournament. Frank Otis scored 16 points and grabbed six rebounds for the Wildcats, who made 19-of-23 free throw attempts and shot 53.6 percent from the floor against the Lumberjacks.

Weber State, which finished the Big Sky’s regular-season slate with an 18-2 record, is now 25-5 overall.

In the semifinal round on Friday, the Wildcats will face the University of North Dakota, which dispatched the Southern Utah Thunderbirds, 69-52. North Dakota led by just three points at halftime before outscoring Southern Utah in the second half, 41-27. Mitch Wilmer finished with 11 points and 14 rebounds, while Troy Huff led UND with 15 points.
