Missouri vs. Texas A&M results: Tigers advance to SEC quarterfinals

It’s 2013, and Missouri and Texas A&M played in an SEC Tournament basketball game.

Andy Lyons

The two first-year members of the SEC, the Missouri Tigers and Texas A&M Aggies, faced off in the second round of the SEC tournament Thursday, and Missouri rolled to a 62-50 win.

Alex Oriakhi led the sixth-seeded Tigers — one of only two SEC teams widely believed to be comfortably in the NCAA tournament, along with the Florida Gators — with 13 points and 10 rebounds, dominating Texas A&M on 6-of-7 shooting to boost Missouri to an early lead it would not surrender. Four players scored in double figures for Missouri.

Phil Pressey had an uncharacteristically-poor game, shooting 0-of-1 from the field and finishing with two points and six assists.

Texas A&M's Elston Turner, a first-team All-SEC selection by the league's coaches, was an atrocious 3-of-17 from the field and finished with seven points. Turner scored 15 points for the Aggies in possibly their best win of the season, a 70-68 home win against Missouri on Feb. 7.

Missouri, which is the defending Big 12 Tournament champion and obviously will not defend that particular title, advanced to the SEC quarterfinals where it will play the No. 3-seeded Ole Miss Rebels. The two teams split their two regular-season meetings. Both teams won comfortably at home in those games.
