No. 4 Virginia vs. No. 5 N.C. State results: Wolfpack rout Cavaliers, advance to ACC semis

N.C. State blew a big hole in Virginia’s bubble, running the Cavaliers out of the arena.

The N.C. State Wolfpack steamrolled the Virginia Cavaliers, 75-56, to move on to the semifinal round in the ACC tournament.

N.C. State wasted little time getting a big lead in this game, using a 9-2 run to jump out to a 10-point lead early. They were helped out by T.J. Warren and C.J. Leslie, who had 12 and eight points in the first half, respectively. The Wolfpack went into halftime up 30-21.

The second half was more of the same, as N.C. State started things off with a 14-4 run to put the Cavaliers. Virginia never got closer than 11 points the rest of the way.

N.C. State shot 8 of 16 on three pointers and won the rebounding battle 38-26. Leslie finished with a double-double (17 points, 11 rebounds), and Warren had 18 points, but it was Scott Wood who led the team with 23 points.

This is a major blow to Virginia’s tourney hopes. One of the major bubble teams, it needed a win here, or at least a competitive game. Instead, the Cavaliers got blown out of the arena and finish the season on a sour note, losing three out of their last four games. They may find themselves disappointed on Selection Sunday.

As for the Wolfpack, their NCAA spot is secure and they’ll be looking to improve seeding when they take on Miami on Saturday.
