Big Ten basketball tournament 2013 results and bracket: Wisconsin ousts Michigan

The Michigan Wolverines can kiss a potential No. 1 seed goodbye after losing to the Wisconsin Badgers, 68-59, in the second round of the Big Ten tournament on Friday.

The combo of guards Trey Burke and Tim Hardaway Jr. combined for 33 points for the Wolverines but they didn't get a whole lot of assistance from the rest of the team as Michigan shot just 40.4 percent in the loss.

It was an ugly first half as the two teams combined for just 37 points, but both teams snapped out of the shooting funk in the second half. None more so than Badgers guard Ben Brust, who scored 11 of his 14 points as the Badgers dropped 51 points in the second half after scoring just 17 in the first.

The loss means the Wolverines are definitely out of contention for a top seed in the NCAA tournament and may end up sliding to a third seed. As much of a boon as it was for Michigan, the win will help the Badgers move up in seeding, as they will face the top-seed Indiana Hoosiers in the semifinals on Saturday.

The top-seeded Hoosiers are taking care of business in time for Selection Sunday. Illinois, fresh of a thrilling win over Minnesota courtesy of a game-winning buzzer beater by guard Brandon Paul, couldn't replicate their success as the Hoosiers trashed the Fighting Illini, 80-64.

Cody Zeller had 24 points and nine rebounds and POY-candidate Victor Oladipo added 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Hoosiers as they jumped out to a 14-point lead at halftime and never looked back.

The 10th-seeded Nebraska Cornhuskers squeaked by Purdue on Thursday but ran into the brick wall that is the Ohio State Buckeyes on Friday as the Buckeyes shot close to 60 percent in a 71-50 win. Nebraska kept it close for most of the first half, but fell apart at the beginning of the second as the Buckeyes went on a 15-0 run to blow the game wide open. The Cornhuskers had no answer for the Ohio State front line as Deshaun Thomas and Sam Thompson, who both scored 19 points for the Buckeyes.

Michigan State had to rally from 12 down in the second half to push past a determined Iowa Hawkeyes squad eager to crash the Big Ten semifinals, as the Spartans won, 59-56.

Adreian Payne had 18 points and 10 rebounds for the Spartans as they held off a balanced scoring attack from the Hawkeyes. Ten different players from Iowa scored, but nobody finished with double figures. Michigan State goes on to play Ohio State in the semifinals on Saturday.
