Florida fans don’t always love Kenny Boynton, as Alligator Army details, but they’ll probably come around on the senior after he singlehandedly powered the Gators to a semifinal win over Alabama.

After earning a reputation as being unable to win close games thanks to 24 double-digit wins and six single-digit losses, critics around the country were ready to seize on Florida as they trailed late in the semifinals of the SEC Tournament to Alabama. Then, Kenny Boynton took over: he scored 11 straight points as part of a 15-0 run that turned a double-digit deficit into a double-digit win. Florida blog Alligator Army appreciated the explosion, to say the least.
Boynton’s 16 points tie a 16-point game against Auburn as his best scoring output since he dumped in 18 against Mississippi State in January, and came largely on the sorts of aggressive knifing moves to the basket he’s best at, with only two of his six threes on the day splashing down. They should provide a huge boost of confidence to Florida, and help a fan base that has had its love-hate relationship with Boynton swing toward hate in recent weeks come back to speaking terms with one of Florida’s best and most maddening players.The Gators square off against Marshall Henderson and the Ole Miss Rebels Sunday afternoon, and if they win, they’re in the market for a No. 1 seed -- Ken Pomeroy’s numbers rank them as the top seed in the nation, so there’s certainly an argument for it.
You wouldn’t really know Alabama lost an SEC semifinal game Saturday from the front page of Roll Bama Roll, but they have three football titles in four years to worry about, so it’s understandable.
