What should have been a day of celebration for James Madison has turned into a day of controversy, as forward Rayshawn Goins was arrested on Selection Sunday for obstruction of justice and disorderly conduct, according to Mark Selig of the Daily News-Record.

James Madison leading scorer and rebounder Rayshawn Goins was arrested for obstruction of justice and disorderly conduct in Virginia on Selection Sunday.

Goins was taken to Rockingham County Jail in Virginia, but he was cooperative with police and released on a $2,500 unsecured bond. Selig reports that the incident stemmed from a team party that “got out of hand” late Saturday night.
The university released an official statement saying that they are aware of the situation and will review the details on Monday. The arrest could affect Goins’ status for James Madison’s first round NCAA Tournament Game against LIU-Brooklyn on Wednesday. Goins is the Dukes’ leading scorer and rebounder, averaging 12.7 points and 7.4 rebounds.
The senior scored 14 points and pulled down 13 rebounds in James Madison’s 70-57 victory over Northeastern in the Colonial Athletic Association championship game, sending the Dukes to their first NCAA Tournament in 19 years. The last time James Madison was in the tournament was 1994, when they lost a 64-62 heartbreaker to Florida.
The winner of James Madison and LIU-Brooklyn will face Indiana in Dayton on Friday. Getting there could be tough for the Dukes if Goins is disciplined for his actions.
