The new Big East to announce deal with Fox, MSG tomorrow

The schools keeping the Big East name will announce both a national and local cable presence tomorrow.

Evan Habeeb-USA TODAY Sports

It looks like tomorrow will bring an end to the incessant, annoying, tiring, awful, terrible conference realignment and TV quagmire in college sports... until the next one happens.

Shortly after the former Big East -- the teams that will have to figure out a new name -- finalized their agreement with ESPN today, Fox and the Big East -- the Catholic Seven teams -- sent out an advisory that the two parties will hold a press event at Fox’s studios tomorrow to announce a “long-term partnership.” Fox plans to use Big East basketball as key inventory on its new Fox Sports 1 cable network, which will launch in August. Brett McMurphy of ESPN is also reporting that New York-based cable network MSG will also get a piece of the TV pie, similar to the former Big East’s agreement with SNY.

The new Big East will be a basketball-fronted conference, headlined by the ‘Catholic Seven’ teams who sought to break away from the football-dependent schools. Those teams are Georgetown, Villanova, Seton Hall, St. John’s, Providence, DePaul and Marquette. Xavier, Butler and Creighton have been rumored to potentially join them, with Xavier just a short time ago alerting the media that they will have a “special announcement” for tomorrow, so the conference’s TV deal and more of its members could be all set by tomorrow.
