2013 NIT bracket: Iowa, Stony Brook advance to second round

Iowa made quick work of Indiana State, and Stony Brook picked up a big road win over Massachusetts to advance.

USA TODAY Sports

The second day of the 2013 NIT brought even more upsets. After top-seeded Kentucky fell to Robert Morris on Tuesday night, Massachusetts, which earned a No. 2 seed following an impressive run through the Atlantic 10 Conference, fell to Stony Brook.

Stony Brook entered the NIT as a No. 7 seed. Despite playing as the underdogs, the Seawolves went on a big run late in the first half and never looked back, picking up a 71-58 win at the William D. Mullins Center in Amherst, Mass.

The second game of the night pitted No. 3 Iowa against No. 6 Indiana State. The Hawkeyes avoided an early-round upset at home, dominating the Sycamores for 40 minutes and winning, 68-52. It was an impressive showing from a team some felt were snubbed from the NCAA Tournament.

With their wins, Iowa and Stony Brook will face off in the next round of the NIT. The game information is yet to be announced by either school.

Here is an updated look at the NIT bracket.
