Pitt fans continued to be disappointed with the team’s recent March play under Jamie Dixon, as another year has led to another first round exit for the Panthers.

Another year has led to another surprisingly early exit for Jamie Dixon’s Pitt Panthers, and their fans weren’t particularly pleased with it.

Wichita State beat Pitt handily in the 8-9 game, with Malcolm Armstead scoring 22 and Cleanthony Early 21. Meanwhile, Tray Woodall was out of rhythm all day in the final game of his Pitt career. He finished 1-for-12 from the field with just two points and turned the ball over five times against just one assist.
Needless to say, Pitt blog Cardiac Hill did not enjoy the loss much:

Now that we have that out of the way, we’ll move on to the highlights of the game.

Oh, that’s right. In today’s 71-55 loss to the Shockers of Wichita State, there were none.
Now, the question turns to Dixon. Although he led the Panthers to the Elite Eight in 2009, fans are starting to wonder about his lack of success in March - and no, they don’t think a CBI Championship last season counts in that regard.
That said, Dixon clearly didn’t have the team ready and we’re beyond the point where it’s fair to ask questions about why the postseason struggles are so numerous. Losing is fine, but losing with such regularity as a higher seed is not. And getting blown out in the first round simply isn’t acceptable. At some point Dixon needs to figure out just what it is he’s doing wrong. He doesn’t personally miss all those shots from the field, but he’s the one who assembles the talent - and in case you didn’t notice, this year’s team didn’t have nearly enough of it.
It’s back to the drawing board for Pitt. Only problem is, we’ve been saying that for some time now.
Despite the dissatisfaction, the general consensus is that Dixon is safe - and that the team should be worried about him taking a job at USC.
