The No. 10 Oklahoma Sooners' season came to an end on Friday night, falling to the No. 7 San Diego St. Aztecs in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Oklahoma’s first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2009 was a short one, as they fell to San Diego St. in the second round.

Despite holding a small lead for most of the game, the Sooners came unraveled in the second half, as their shots stopped falling. The long scoring drought was an ongoing theme all year and led to Oklahoma’s limp ending to the season. They lost their last three games, including one to last place TCU, and finished with an underwhelming 20-12 record.
Jordan Esco of the OU blog Crimson And Cream Machine sums up the loss aptly:
An Oklahoma offense which has struggled on repeated occasions this season did so again Friday with the lone exception being Romero Osby. The OU senior was the only player in crimson and cream in double figures and absolutely carried this team, singlehandedly preventing the final margin from being significantly worse than the eventual fifteen point deficit.
To borrow a line from Bob Stoops, ‘in the end’ in this type of setting (or any game really) you’re going to need more than one guy to show up and sadly, Osby was the only guy for OU to show up Friday night.
On the other hand, Esco is optimistic about the team’s future. This is their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2009 and they have a promising young core of players:
And so with the loss, this season comes to an end. A disappointing one considering they did not play particularly well Friday night, but when you step back and take a look at the bigger picture still definitely a season to be proud of and excited for the future of this program.
