Miami vs. Pacific: Hurricanes dominate in first game

Miami had little trouble taking care of Pacific in the second round. See how our SB Nation blogger reacted to the game.

Ronald Martinez

The No. 2 Miami Hurricanes didn't have any trouble dispatching the No. 15 Pacific Tigers, rolling in a 78-49 romp that was almost never in doubt. Their first trip to the NCAA Tournament since 2008 went according to script after winning both the ACC regular season and tournament title.

Josh Kaufman at SB Nation blog State Of The U was as exuberant as you’d expect after a dominating victory:

Aside from the crisp passing, intense defense, and high-octane scoring, this game was about Miami’s return to relevance in basketball.

It was about the players who worked so hard to reach one of their most important goals. It was about the coach who radically changed how basketball is played at the U. It was about the program continuing to show how to “do athletics” the right way after some events of years past. And it was about the fans - not only the long-suffering ‘Canes fans perpetually hoping for a better day - but for the new batch of ‘Canes fanatics that will reinvent the BUC as a venue to fear over the coming years.

The Canes are popular favorites to cut down the nets in April, and it's hard to argue with that position after seeing them run roughshod over the ACC. They face the No. 7 Illinois Fighting Illini on Sunday in the round of 32.
