UNLV forward Anthony Bennett will declare for NBA Draft, CBS reports

The freshman forward averaged 16.1 points and 8.1 rebounds per game this season for the Rebels and projects to be a lottery pick.

USA TODAY Sports

Just two days after the Rebels' Second Round loss to California, sources have told CBS Sports that UNLV forward Anthony Bennett will declare for the NBA Draft.

The freshman averaged 16.1 points and 8.1 rebounds per contest, both team highs, in his only season with the Rebels. He led the team to 25 wins and an appearance in the Mountain West Tournament title game.

Bennett is expected to be a high lottery pick in June’s NBA Draft. NBADraft.net projects him going seventh overall, while DraftExpress has him as high as five.

The 6’8 forward came to UNLV out of basketball powerhouses FIndlay Prep (Nevada) and the CIA Bounce AAU program in Canada. He is expected to make his decision official sometime this week.

With Bennett's departure, the Rebels will surely have a gaping hole to fill. Forward Savon Goodman will be expected to step up more, and UNLV will lean on Roscoe Smith, a transfer from Connecticut who will be eligible next year. The Rebels also have Christian Wood, a forward ranked in ESPN's 2013 top 100 recruits, committed for 2013-14. Wood also played at Findlay Prep.
