Tubby Smith rumors: Texas Tech interested in former Minnesota head coach
Texas Tech is rumored to be interested in former Minnesota coach Tubby Smith.

Smith was fired by Minnesota following their loss in the NCAA Tournament. It was considered a surprising move after the Gophers’ big first-round win over UCLA. In his six seasons with Minnesota, he led them to three appearances in the big dance. He’s still best known for his run at Kentucky, where he led the Wildcats to six Sweet 16 appearances, four Elite Eight trips and one National Championship over 10 years.
Texas Tech is looking for a long-term coach after Billy Gillipsie resigned amid allegations of player abuse. They finished 11-20 under interim coach Chris Walker.
After Shaka Smart’s extension with VCU, Smith is one of the biggest names available in the coaching pool. He’s not expected to stay unemployed for very long.
