UCLA coaching search: Brad Stevens is Bruins’ top target, per report

The UCLA basketball program may be closing in on their new head coach. Butler’s Brad Stevens is their top target to replace Ben Howland, according to ESPN’s Andy Katz. Sources also told ESPN that the two sides are working on a contract negotiation.

Stevens has not confirmed or denied that he’s interested in the job, texting “As you know, my stance is to not comment on any other speculation or situation.”

UCLA fired Howland on Sunday after a disappointing exit in the round of 64. They were rumored to be pursuing Shaka Smart early on, but Smart signed a 10-year extension to stay with VCU. They have also been linked to N.C. State’s Mark Gottfried and Washington’s Lorenzo Romar.
