Carter-Williams scored 12 first-half points, but was briefly quieted on offense once Victor Oladipo began guarding him. However, Oladipo missed a few possessions after suffering a minor injury while falling into the Syracuse band during a scramble for a loose ball early in the second half, and Carter-Williams responded with nine points in a span of 4:30 to turn a six-point lead into a 14-point advantage.
Indiana struggled offensively regardless of what Carter-Williams was doing on the other end of the floor. Forwards Cody Zeller, Christian Watford and Will Sheehey combined to shoot just 10-of-31 from the floor for the Hoosiers, who were stymied by Syracuse's 2-3 zone defense throughout the evening.
Syracuse will move on to the Elite Eight, where they'll face the No. 3 Marquette Golden Eagles, who defeated No. 2 Miami earlier on Thursday.
