March Madness 2013 bracket, Indiana vs. Syracuse: Orange knock off Hoosiers, 61-50

A career night from Michael Carter-Williams propelled the Syracuse Orange into the Elite Eight and eliminated top-seeded Indiana.

Michael Carter-Williams scored a career-high 23 points to lead the No. 4 Syracuse Orange to a 61-50 victory over the No. 1 Indiana Hoosiers in the Sweet 16 round of the 2013 NCAA Tournament on Thursday at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C.

Carter-Williams scored 12 first-half points, but was briefly quieted on offense once Victor Oladipo began guarding him. However, Oladipo missed a few possessions after suffering a minor injury while falling into the Syracuse band during a scramble for a loose ball early in the second half, and Carter-Williams responded with nine points in a span of 4:30 to turn a six-point lead into a 14-point advantage.

Indiana struggled offensively regardless of what Carter-Williams was doing on the other end of the floor. Forwards Cody Zeller, Christian Watford and Will Sheehey combined to shoot just 10-of-31 from the floor for the Hoosiers, who were stymied by Syracuse's 2-3 zone defense throughout the evening.

Syracuse will move on to the Elite Eight, where they'll face the No. 3 Marquette Golden Eagles, who defeated No. 2 Miami earlier on Thursday.
