Florida Gulf Coast’s Andy Enfield a target for USC coaching job, according to report

Fresh off an impressive Sweet 16 run, Enfield could begin receiving calls about open job vacancies across the country.

The USC Trojans are now targeting Andy Enfield to be the next leader of their program, according to a report from Yahoo! Sports' Dan Wetzel. The Trojans finished this past season with Bob Cantu serving as their interim coach following Kevin O'Neill's firing in January.

Enfield and the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles became the story of the NCAA Tournament with their run to the Sweet 16. After being eliminated on Friday night, Enfield's name has already become a hot topic in coaching searches.

Enfield is an interesting target for a couple of reasons. He likes to play an up-tempo style of offense, which is always important to West Coast recruits. FGCU earned the name “Dunk City” while in the Big Dance, and he is sure to continue pushing the pace moving forward. He would also win the press conference in SoCal coming off an impressive run in March.

At the same time, though, Enfield was essentially unknown in the college basketball world before two weeks ago. He has few ties to the Los Angeles area, and rebuilding the Trojans may not seem like an enticing reward for a man who has a pretty good thing going in Florida.

In addition to Enfield, USC has also targeted Syracuse assistant Mike Hopkins as a head coaching target. Other coaches, such as Josh Pastner, have already turned the job down.
