2013 NCAA Tournament results: Michigan, Louisville move on to Final Four

The Elite Eight wrapped up on Sunday, and the Final Four matchups are now set.

The NCAA Tournament finished its Elite Eight round on Sunday, setting up the Final Four matchups for next week in Atlanta. Louisville is the only No. 1 seed left in the tournament, and they will be facing off against the last Cinderella team standing, MVC representatives Wichita State. On the other side of the bracket, Michigan will play Syracuse after destroying Florida.

Before we get into next week’s games, let’s recap Sunday’s action:

No. 4 Michigan Wolverines 79, No. 3 Florida Gators 59

Michigan reaches the Final Four for the first time since their Fab Five heyday in 1993, and they did it with an exclamation point. The Wolverines stormed out to a 23-5 lead and never looked back, making most of the second half a mere formality. Nik Stauskas was unstoppable, scoring 22 points and knocking down 6 of 6 threes. Erik Murphy had his worst game of the tournament for the Gators, making 0 of 11 field goals and giving up three turnovers. It was a thudding end for Billy Donovan’s squad, who lost their third Elite Eight game in a row.

Michigan will go on to play Syracuse next week.

No. 1 Louisville Cardinals 85, No. 2 Duke Blue Devils 63

Louisville is in the Final Four for the third time under the Rick Pitino era and the second year in a row after thrashing Duke. The first half was a tight back-and-forth affair, “highlighted” by a gruesome leg injury from Kevin Ware. Louisville stuck together and pulled away in the second half with a 24-6 run to put this game away. Russ Smith racked up 23 points and Peyton Siva added 16 to lead the Cardinals, who shot 52.7 percent from the floor compared to Duke’s 36.5 percent.

Louisville will take on Wichita State in Atlanta.
