The first day of the Horizon League tournament concluded on Tuesday. With only three games being played, there weren’t many big name teams on display, but there was still some interesting basketball played. Let’s take a look at the games.

The first day of the Horizon League Tournament is in the books. Let’s recap the action.

Wisconsin-Green Bay Phoenix 62, Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers 46
The Phoenix had little trouble putting away a Panthers team that finished 3-13 in conference play. Alec Brown and Keifer Sykes paced the team with 18 and 16 points, respectively. Meanwhile, Milwaukee couldn't find the bucket at all, shooting only 26 percent from the field. This game was never in real doubt. Green Bay will play Illinois-Chicago on Friday.
Illinois-Chicago Flames 82, Cleveland State Vikings 59
Another game that wasn't all that competitive. Chicago started the game on a 30-6 run and never looked back. Josh Crittle led with 20 points and six rebounds, and the team as a whole shot 49.1 percent from the field, compared with 31.7 percent from Cleveland State. The Flames will face Wisconsin-Green Bay on Friday.
Youngstown State Penguins 62, Loyola (IL) Rambers 60
Easily the highlight of the night for the conference. A back-and-forth game came right down to the wire, as D.J. Cole’s layup with 2.5 seconds left clinched the victory. This was considered a mild upset, as the Rambers ranked 170th in KenPom, compared with 207th for the Penguins. They will go on to face the Wright State Raiders on Friday.
The next round will be played on Friday, where both winners will play Valparaiso and Detroit, the two favorites to win this tournament. Here’s the updated schedule:
