Big East basketball standings 2013: Marquette, Notre Dame keep pace

Marquette and Notre Dame took care of business to keep pace at the top of the Big East standings.

USA TODAY Sports

The Marquette Golden Eagles entered Tuesday looking to shore up a bye spot in the Big East tournament. Despite a scare from the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, they held on, 60-54, to stay alive for the regular season title. They take on the St. John's Red Storm to close out the regular season.

In other Big East action, Notre Dame has moved into a tie for fourth after dominating St. John's. The Irish face the Louisville Cardinals on Saturday hoping to boost their resume for the Big Dance, but Tuesday's ugly brawl means they will be short-handed.

The last game of the night didn’t have much at stake other than determining lower seeds in the conference tourney, as Providence beat Seton Hall, 76-66.
