VCU kept its hopes of an Atlantic 10 regular-season championship alive with a high-scoring 93-82 home win over Richmond on Wednesday night.

Treveon Graham scored 21 points to lead VCU to a home win over cross-town rival Richmond, in a game that was close until the final minutes.

Both teams shot over 50 percent for the game, and VCU put up 50 points in the second half alone to pull away.
The teams went back and forth in the first half before the Rams' Rob Brandenberg scored seven straight points for VCU, spanning both halves, to turn a one-point Richmond lead into a six-point Rams advantage. VCU then led until an 8-0 run put Richmond back up at the 13:22 mark.
From there, it was neck-and-neck until the final minutes. Neither team led by more than four points until Juvonte Reddic made a layup to put VCU up six with 1:40 left. After that, it was all about making free throws for VCU. The Rams did just that, shooting 8-of-10 from the line in the last 100 seconds to seal the win.
VCU received a balanced contribution in the scoring column, with five players in double figures, led by 21 from Treveon Graham. Richmond had similar balance and also saw significant contributions from its bench. Kendall Anthony (11 points) and Terry Allen (13 points) both stepped up for the Spiders while Cedrick Lindsay led the way with a game-high 22 points.
With the loss, Richmond now almost certainly needs to win the Atlantic 10 tournament to make the Big Dance. The Spiders are in a four-way tie for ninth place in the conference, and have lost two straight. VCU, on the other hand, will need some help in order to win the Atlantic 10 regular-season title. The Rams would need to beat Temple in the regular-season finale, and hope St. Louis slips down the stretch.
