Big Ten standings 2013: Michigan moves within striking distance of top spot

Even with just two games on the schedule, the Big Ten standings got even more complicated on Wednesday night.

Sandra Dukes-USA TODAY Sports

The Big Ten is unquestionably the best conference in college basketball this season. All things considered, it’s tough to remember a conference being so deep with quality teams in the last few years.

Two important games were scheduled for Wednesday night.

The No. 7 Michigan Wolverines, who began the day tied for third place with Michigan State and Wisconsin, defeated Purdue, 80-75.

The other game was between Minnesota and Nebraska. The Golden Gophers hit the skids about a month ago, but they’ve been playing better the past couple of weeks. They still fell to the Cornhuskers, 53-51.

Here is an updated look at the conference standings following Wednesday’s action.
