Southern Conference Tournament 2013 schedule and bracket: Can anyone stop Davidson?

Davidson ran through regular season play in the Southern Conference and is a heavy favorite to repeat as tournament champions. The bottom eight teams in the conference kick off tournament play on Friday.

The Southern Conference Tournament kicks off on Friday in Asheville, N.C., with eight teams in action, but Davidson, the clear favorite, does not play until Saturday. The Wildcats posted a 17-1 conference record in the regular season, winning the South Division, with Elon winning the North.

Despite Davidson's dominance and 14-game winning streak, they will still need to win the SoCon Tournament to make it to the big dance as an at-large selection is not likely. SB Nation's Chris Dobbertean has Davidson as a 14-seed in his latest bracket projections.

Last year’s tournament featured a classic championship game, with Davidson pulling out a double overtime win over Western Carolina. The Wildcats went on to lose a tight game to Louisville in the NCAA Tournament as a 13-seed.

The top four seeds in the conference get a bye into Saturday’s quarterfinals, with the bottom eight teams fighting for that chance on Friday night. 2010 and 2011 tournament champion Wofford faces off against the only SoCon team to beat Davidson this season, Georgia Southern, with the winner advancing to take on the top seed. No teams in action on Friday had better than a .500 conference record, but that doesn’t mean one of them can’t make a run. Last year, Western Carolina nearly won the tournament with an 8-10 conference record (they went 9-9 in conference this season).
