America East Tournament 2013 schedule and bracket: Stony Brook looks to avoid upset

Stony Brook appears to be the heavy favorites to land the automatic bid up for grabs. Will they cut down the nets, or will a lower seed get hot and steal it away?

Debby Wong-USA TODAY Sports

The 2013 America East Tournament is set to hit the SEFCU Arena in Albany, N.Y. from March 9-10. In a conference known for sending a couple of Cinderella teams to the Big Dance over the years, hoops fans should be in for some great action.

After back-to-back days of quarterfinals and semifinals action, the two teams that advance to the championship game will have five days to recover before playing for an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The championship will be played at the highest seed’s home court.

On Saturday, there are four quarterfinals matchups. The America East is host to nine teams, but with Boston University leaving for the Patriot League next year, they are barred from postseason play. The full tournament bracket can be found here.

As for the field of eight teams, Stony Brook enters as the heavy favorites. They are ranked 57th in Kenpom’s efficiency ratings, which is nearly 80 spots higher than any other America East program. Armed with one of the better defenses in the country, the Seawolves will be a tough opponent all week long in Albany.

Fans can find the quarterfinals and semifinals streamed live on ESPN3. The title game will be televised by ESPN2. All times Eastern.
