MAAC basketball tournament schedule and bracket: Top-seeded Niagara in action against Siena

Saturday features four quarterfinal matchups in the 2013 MAAC Tournament, with top-seeded Niagara starting off the day against Siena.

Matt Cashore-USA TODAY Sports

The 2013 MAAC Tournament continues on Saturday, with the top-seeded Niagara Purple Eagles facing the ninth-seeded Siena Saints in the first of four quarterfinal matchups.

Siena has struggled for much of the year, going just 4-14 in the conference and 7-23 overall before knocking out the eighth-seeded Marist Red Foxes in the first round of the MAAC Tournament on Friday. Niagara enters the game with just an 18-12 record overall, but a 13-5 record in the conference.

The winner of that game will take on the winner of the No. 4/No. 5 matchup, which is between the Iona Gaels and Canisius Golden Griffins. Both teams are sporting 11-7 conference records, but the Gaels are the No. 4 seed due to the tiebreaker.

Moving down to the bottom of the bracket, the second-seeded Rider Broncs will face the seventh-seeded Fairfield Stags. The Stags reached the quarterfinals by beating the St. Peter's Peacocks, the last-place team in the conference. The Broncs went 12-6 in the conference and are 18-13 overall.

Capping off the night will be the team with the best overall record in the conference, with the third-seeded Loyola (MD) Greyhounds facing the sixth-seeded Manhattan Jaspers. The Greyounds went 12-6 in conference and are 21-10 overall, the only team in the MAAC to have reached 20 wins thus far. The Jaspers went 9-9 in conference play, but sport just a 12-17 overall record.

Here’s the full schedule for the day (all times Eastern and all games on ESPN3):

No. 1 Niagara vs. No. 9 Siena, 2:30 p.m.

No. 4 Iona vs. No. 5 Canisius, 4:30 p.m.

No. 2 Rider vs. No. 7 Fairfield, 7:30 p.m.

No. 3 Loyola (MD) vs. No. 6 Manhattan, 9:30 p.m.
