MAAC tournament 2013 results and bracket: Niagara, Iona, Fairfield advance to semifinals

One semifinal matchup in the MAAC conference tournament is set for Sunday.

The top-seeded Niagara Purple Eagles (19-12) and the Iona Gaels (18-13) both advanced to the semifinals of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament with wins Saturday. The teams will play each other at 2 p.m. Sunday, with the winner advancing to the league championship game.

Niagara advanced by beating Siena 74-62. Antoine Mason had 21 points and four steals and Juan'ya Green had 15 points and six rebounds for the Purple Eagles.

Iona made it to the semis by beating Canisius 89-85. Lamont Jones led the way with 33 points and Sean Armand scored 24 points.

The teams split their two regular season meetings.

Fairfield advanced to the other semifinal with a 43-42 win over Rider. Fairfield will play the winner of Saturday’s game between Loyola and Manhattan. See the entire tournament schedule here.
