Craig Neal’s son granted release, will play for New Mexico

Neal was next in line to replace departing star Matthew Dellavedova at St. Mary's, per Goodman, but instead will join Craig Neal, who was promoted to head coach of the Lobos after Steve Alford left for UCLA. Neal, a 6'4, 170-pound point guard, averaged 26.5 points per game as a senior at Eldorado High School.

Neal, a three-star recruit, is rated as the top player in the state of New Mexico and the No. 27-ranked point guard in the country, according to ESPN's RecruitingNation. He'll join a team that includes an established underclassman guard in Kendall Williams. Another underclassman, Tony Snell, has opted to enter the NBA Draft.
