Aaron Gordon commits to Arizona basketball on Tuesday

One of the nation’s top basketball prospects made his college announcement on Tuesday morning, when San Jose forward Aaron Gordon committed to Arizona. Gordon chose the Wildcats over Oregon, Kentucky and Washington.

USA TODAY Sports

Aaron Gordon, one of the top-ranked high school basketball players in the country, announced on Tuesday morning that he will attend Arizona next year. Gordon picked the Wildcats over Oregon, Kentucky and Washington.

Gordon, listed as the nation’s No. 4 overall prospect according to ESPN.com, made his announcement in Chicago, where he will play in Wednesday’s McDonald’s All-American Game. Gordon averaged 21.6 points, 15.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.1 blocks as a senior at Archbishop Mitty High School in San Jose this past season.

For Arizona, this is excellent news for a team which seems primed to make a serious Final Four run in the 2013-2014 season.

A 6'8 forward, Gordon should fit in nicely along the Wildcats frontline, which will likely return Brandon Ashley, Kaleb Tarczewski and Grant Jerrett. Nick Johnson and transfer T.J. McConnell are expected to start in the backcourt for the Wildcats, whose 2013 season ended with a Sweet 16 loss to Ohio State last week.

Gordon is the younger brother of former UCLA and New Mexico forward Drew Gordon.
