Loyola University replaces Creighton, which will leave the MVC for the revamped Big East Conference, effective July 1. The Ramblers were a charter member of the Horizon League, which has lost a number of high-profile basketball schools over the years. Butler was the most recent to leave, defecting for the Atlantic 10 prior to the 2012-13 season. Marquette, Xavier, St. Louis, La Salle and Notre Dame were also members of previous incarnations of the league.
The Ramblers finished the 2012-13 basketball campaign with a 15-16 record under second-year head coach Porter Moser. They have not reached the NCAA Tournament since 1986, when they advanced to the Sweet 16 to cap off a 27-win season.
