Louisville earned the top seed in the tournament after splitting the Big East regular season title and winning the Big East conference tournament. The Cardinals have dominated most of their tournament opponents, and clinched a spot in Final Four by defeating the No. 2 Duke Blue Devils 85-63 in the Midwest regional final. Louisville will play without reserve guard Kevin Ware, who suffered a horrific leg injury in the first half against Duke.
Wichita State received an at-large bid after finishing second in the Missouri Valley conference to the Creighton Bluejays. The Shockers knocked off the top two seeds in the West region, defeating the No. 1 Gonzaga Bulldogs 76-70 in the third round and the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes 70-66 in the Elite Eight.
The Cardinals enter the game as heavy favorites over the Shockers, as Ken Pomeroy gives Louisville an 83 percent chance of winning the game.
