Wichita State vs. Louisville score update: Shockers control opening minutes of second half

Despite playing on a huge stage, it’s the underdog Shockers who are calm, cool and collected.

Louisville and Wichita State picked up the pace in the opening minutes of the second half. With just 20 minutes separating them from the championship game, the Shockers put together a 12-6 run to set the tone.

Both teams did a nice job attacking the rim, which also freed up a couple of open looks from behind the arc. Ron Baker drilled a deep three to put Wichita State up four, which could mean big things for WSU moving forward. When he gets hot, the Shockers seem to really pick up their level of play.

As was the case in the first half, the referees allowed very little contact. Russ Smith picked up his third foul less than three minutes into the half, which could be huge for Louisville down the stretch. Smith has arguably been the most valuable player through the first two weekends of the NCAA Tournament, and his strong play is crucial to the Cardinals' gameplan.

With just under 16 minutes to go, Carl Hall made an and-one layup to put Wichita St. up seven, pushing the score to 38-31.

The tournament’s top-seeded team is on the ropes.
